Love Hot Dogs? Not After You Read This

Need another reason not to eat hot dogs? This report should do it for you. While there are many studies that share all the bad stuff that makes it’s way into hot dogs, this report shows that even vegetarian hot dog products aren’t safe. And while this report doesn’t cover all the nasty preservatives in hot dogs and sausage like sodium nitrate that can have impact your health almost immediately, it should give you a pretty good “gross factor” and help you change your mind about loving this all American food.

Eating right means no hot dogs

The food that’s a staple of American cookouts is getting some scrutiny for some unexpected ingredients.

Clear Food, an independent company that analyzes food at the molecular level, found that 14.4 percent of the hot dogs it tested were “problematic.”

Clear Food reported that it found human DNA in six of the 345 samples, or 2 percent of all samples tested. Four of the six samples that tested positive for human DNA were vegetarian products.

Other ingredients such as chicken, lamb, turkey and beef showed up in samples that were not listed on the product’s packaging, according to Clear Food, which did note that no pork was found in the “100% Kosher” products it tested.

I Lost Ten Pounds In Eight Weeks!

I Lost Ten Pounds In Eight Weeks

Here’s how I did it.

First I started with a very helpful website MyFitnessPal.com. One of my clients and his wife were using it with great success. He lost 30 pounds using the My Fitness Pal app on his phone, his wife also was losing weight. (*Results may vary.)

I put my current weight in the website plus how much I wanted to lose and how many pounds per week. It helped to see how many calories per day it was going to take to lose one pound per week. For me it was 1200 calories per day.

Next I bought a good accurate scale and vowed to weigh myself every morning upon rising.  I heard warnings about not weighing every day, however I decided it is important to know what affect the food I ate yesterday had on my body today.

For the first week I input everything I consumed on My Fitness Pal. I was shocked to see the actual calorie count on the “healthy” things I was eating. As an example; I would sometimes eat an organic avocado over the course of a day, but then learned that tasty avocado had 322 calories. WOW! When you only have 1200 calories in a day, it’s a huge chunk of the total. Then my favorite salad with chicken breast was 850 calories. FOR A SALAD! Another eye opener! I switched to half of my favorite salad eating it slower.

I continued to put in what I was eating over the course of a week to get an idea of how many calories were in each item. Once I had the calorie count down on each food my nutrition plan began to take form. My Fitness Pal is also good for keeping track of water intake, exercise and other helpful information that includes number of carbs, grams of fat, etc.

I’ve been a nutritional consultant for many years and didn’t have to worry about my weight because I was active, knew my food allergies, and my appetite was never big but I needed to eat every three hours or so due to low blood sugar. Then I turned 50. Got married and suddenly pounds began to shift, activity was less, cooking dinner every night increased the amount of food I was eating, my appetite grew and the pounds started creeping up. And I do mean creeping. I knew I added a few pounds by how my clothes were fitting, chalking it up to life style change, but self-delusion pushed by denial was the real culprit of how the weight continued to accumulate. Only weighing myself occasionally then dismissing the extra pounds didn’t help.

Next my self-esteem began to suffer. My self-talk was conflicting; I’m getting fat and it’s unhealthy, followed by, I’ve gained a few pounds but I’ll stop it soon. I’m not eating that much. My clothes don’t fit right or look right. Is that my body?

The tipping point for me is when we came back from a wonderful trip to Europe. Where I ate my way through Italy justifying the wheat there was not the same as the United States Frankenfood wheat.

However, gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance causes inflammation, which is swelling. Inflammation can cause weight gain and is the fuel for many dis-eases.

When we came home I discovered I weighed nearly 140 pounds, which is too much for my small bone structure. Most of the extra weight was in my abdomen and hips. I was appalled that I was on my way to being obese which means unhealthy, unless I did something immediately. So that’s how my motivation materialized along with wanting to look fit for my husband and myself.

Each day I weigh myself, and sometimes I gain one or two pounds, I think about what I ate the day before. Most of the time it’s due to carbs, like a piece of bread, or potato, maybe some rice or just too much of a combination of cheese, dairy or all the above. We all have heard a calorie is not a calorie and it’s true. Calories from bread, as an example cause a bigger spike in insulin which affects other hormones causing the body to store more fat. The same amount of calories in the form of protein and veggies is less likely to cause weight gain providing the body fuel. Food allergies are also a big part of weight gain. Eating dairy or most grains for me translates to instant fat. And how I love those intoxicating foods. I say intoxicating because I feel good while I’m eating them, but normally feel bloated, lethargic or foggy headed after (the hangover). So now I only eat them occasionally to find the next day I gained weight from self- indulging in foods that are my undoing.

I also started exercising at the rec center with weights three times per week. I work out for 45 minutes with my favorite tunes and have twice the energy when I’m finished. I also walk my dogs with the attention of getting my heart rate up not just strolling. The off days from the rec center I exercise for 30 minutes at home with hand weights, yoga, dancing, sit ups or anything that involves moving. I take Sunday’s off unless we’re going for a hike or bike ride. Exercise is not over rated. The benefits are endless. Human beings have to move in order to be healthy. And if you can’t be healthy, what else is there? Can’t be happy without good health either.

My recommendation to all who want to lose weight is to stop denying that being overweight is okay. Extra weight is unhealthy, it is our physical body’s way of letting us know we’re compromising our health. Our society has lowered the bar on being obese, but it’s the wrong direction when it comes to not being sick and enjoying a long healthy life.  I’d rather live the same amount of years being healthy with a high quality of life than to be sick and on medications caused from being obese. It’s not that difficult to be healthy and is worth the changes required. Choose health as your wealth.

Here’s to your good health!

What’s Really Causing Your Food Allergies?

I frequently receive calls asking about food allergy testing.  One of the first questions I ask is why the caller thinks they have food allergies? What is happens after eating? For instance, is bloating, gas, foggy head, low energy, joint pain, anxiety, headaches or other symptoms part of the picture? If so, there can be an underlying cause driving the food allergies.

Some of the possible drivers can be parasites, bacteria, or a fungal infection (overgrowth of yeast), mold, medication side effects, taking the wrong supplements, a nutrient void diet, and eating foods that are known for causing inflammation; gluten and sugar.

After a determination is found by testing biological preferences the right remedies are tested along with possible diet modifications. Then after the underlying problem is corrected the food allergy testing determines the real food sensitivities, intolerance’s and allergies.

The most common sensitivity is gluten, which is in higher concentrations in United States wheat, rye, barley, spelt, kumut, durum, bulgur, and semolia. Other countries refuse to buy US wheat because it has been genetically engineered since the 1940’s and contains higher levels of gluten along with other mutations that make it unhealthy for most people to consume. Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis is an excellent book on the subject.

The food sensitivity testing provided by The Physics of Health uses biofeedback technology. For more information on this accurate form of food testing please go to www.ThePhysicsofHealth.com or call Trish at 303-257-0058.

Four great ways to alleviate anxiety and calm your nerves:

Four great ways to alleviate anxiety and calm your nerves:

1. If you have any anxiety issues, don’t use an anxiety building drug, namely caffeine.

2.  Sugar and alcohol may make you feel good, but it’s a temporary spike that brings about a crash. These two are especially good to avoid in the late afternoon or evening due to their possible interference with sleep. Caffeine makes this a threesome to avoid.

3. Supplements that may help are Valerian (500 mg) which can also help with mild pain relief. Chamomile has mild sedative properties that can even be used by children. The tea form seems to be the most effective. Melatonin is a natural hormone that can help you sleep (1 to 3 mg).

4. Don’t forget the basics: walking or any kind of exercise; dancing can be a fun way to stay fit and help displace anxiety. Meditation and deep breathing  are very powerful in keeping the mind relaxed and clear.  Remember, 99% of anxiety comes from or is fueled by fear-full thinking.

Here’s to your healthy conscious life!

Animals Raised for Food Get 80 Percent of Antibiotics Sold in U.S.

008 003 (1) 80 percent of antibiotics go to farm animalsThe farm industry uses antibiotics for growth promotion, disease prevention and to try to control the diseases that inevitably result from the brutal, cruel and filthy conditions animals are forced to endure on factory farms. Things to consider

Two quotes I recently heard from a doctor who specializes in anti aging:

“Bad food turns on bad genes. Good food turns on good genes.”

“People are spending their health creating wealth, then spending their wealth trying to re-create health.”

Ten Food Additives Banned in Other Countries But Okay in the U.S.

There are thousands of food and cosmetic additives banned in other countries. These are the top ten…

1. Farmed salmon are raised on a wholly unnatural diet of grains along with a concoction of antibiotics and other drugs. This diet leaves the fish with unappetizing grayish flesh, so to compensate, they’re fed synthetic astaxanthin made from petrochemicals, which has not been approved for human consumption. Farmed Salmon fed these chemicals are banned in Australia and New Zealand.

2. Most Hawaiian papaya is now genetically engineered to be resistant to ringspot virus. Mounting research now shows that animals fed genetically engineered foods, such as corn and soy, suffer a wide range of maladies, including intestinal damage, multiple-organ damage, massive tumors, birth defects, premature death, and near complete sterility by the third generation of offspring. GE papaya is banned in the EU.

3. Ractopamine tainted meat – The beta agonist drug ractopamine, which reduces the overall fat content of meat, is currently used in about 45 percent of US pigs, 30 percent of ration-fed cattle, and an unknown percentage of turkeys. Up to 20 percent of ractopamine remains in the meat you buy from the supermarket.

4. Flame retardant drinks – Citrus-flavored sodas and sports drinks sold in the US typically contain a synthetic chemical called brominated vegetable oil (BVO), which was originally patented by chemical companies as a flame retardant. BVO has been shown to bioaccumulate in human tissue and breast milk, and animal studies have found it causes reproductive and behavioral problems in large doses.

5. More than 3,000 food additives — preservatives, flavorings, colors and other ingredients — are added to US foods. Meanwhile, many of these are banned in other countries, based on research showing toxicity and hazardous health effects, especially with respect to adverse effects on children’s behavior.

6. Arsenic Laced Chicken – Arsenic-based drugs are approved for use in animal feed in the US because they make animals grow quicker and make the meat appear pinker (i.e. “fresher”). The FDA claims these products are safe because they contain organic arsenic, which is less toxic than the other inorganic form, which is a known carcinogen. However, studies suggest the organic arsenic can transform into inorganic arsenic, which has been found in store-bought chickens sold in the US. The EU does not permit arsenic-based drugs in food animals.

7. Bread With Potassium Bromate – The use of potassium bromate as an additive to commercial breads and baked goods has been a huge contributor to bromide overload in Western cultures. Bromated flour is “enriched” with potassium bromate. Studies have linked potassium bromate to kidney and nervous system damage, thyroid problems, gastrointestinal discomfort, and cancer. Use of potassium bromate is banned in Canada, China and the EU.

8. Olestra, aka Olean, created by Procter & Gamble, is a calorie- and cholesterol-free fat substitute used in fat-free snacks like chips and French fries. Adverse reactions include diarrhea, cramps and leaky bowels. More importantly, olestra also interferes with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K. Olestra is banned in the UK and Canada.

9. Preservatives BHA & BHT – BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) are commonly used preservatives. BHA is known to cause cancer in rats, and may be a cancer-causing agent in humans as well. US experts concluded that BHA “is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.” BHA and BHT are banned in Japan and parts of the European Union, and the UK does not permit BHA in baby foods.

10. rBGH is a synthetic version of natural bovine somatotropin (BST). It’s injected into cows to increase milk production, but it is banned in at least 30 other nations because of its dangers to human health, which include an increased risk for colorectal, prostate, and breast cancer by promoting conversion of normal tissue cells into cancerous ones. The only way to avoid rBGH is to look for products labeled as “rBGH-free” or “No rBGH.” RBGH is banned in Australia, New Zealand, Israel, the EU, and Canada.

What is a GMO?

What is a GMO

GMO means, genetically modified organism. Genetic modification involves the mutation, insertion, or deletion of genes. When genes are inserted, they usually come from a different species. An example of one type of genetic modification is crossing a salmon gene with a tomato to make the tomato more resistant to cold.

The most controversial genetic modification is brought to us by Monsanto. The Monsanto GMO corn, soybeans, sugar beets, and more are genetically modified to take large doses of their product, Roundup (pesticide), without the plant dying. Sound like science fiction to you? Here’s another fact. If some of Monsanto’s GMO seeds blow in to another farmers field, which could be miles away, Monsanto sues the farmer for patent infringement since the GMO seeds are patented by Monsanto. Another horrific side effect to GMO plants is once the weeds are killed from Roundup or other pesticides, the upcoming generations of weeds adapt creating the need for stronger, more deadly pesticides.

I have only scratched the surface, there are GMO mosquitoesGMO salmon, and more GMO’s than you know: Whole Foods FAQs and Council For Responsible Genetics.

Now for the health hazards to human beings, the planet, and all other forms of life.

Almost every other country, even China, require labeling of GMO food, but not in the U.S., at least not so far. So the next time you have an opportunity to vote for GMO labeling you’ll know what all the fuss is about.

PLEASE REMEMBER; THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID GMO’S IS TO BUY ORGANIC FOOD. Voting with your money sends the loudest message.

Here’s to robust health!
